Question #2

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Lisa Sheridan

Mental unstable love rival.
Age: 35
Occupation: Temporary secretary
Likes: Having a drink, sexual active

Alexandra Ryder
Looking for love
Age: 19
Occupation: Secretary
Likes: Socialising and reading

In the film Obsessed Lisa Sheridan is the other women who gets obsessed with her boss. When the boss is unwilling to start a relationship with her she turns nasty and blackmails him and his wife.the other women then breaks into his house and is a threat to therm and their children.
But in our film the secretary is the one that gets kidnapped and the wife blackmails her husband to be.The character of the secretary is reinforcing the stereotype of women as they are identified by men as sex objects but is challenging it by her being the one putting the pressure on the man. Throughout the opening the stereotype of the woman is reinforced as she is seen to be the weak, vulnerable during the accident and the following events. The secretary is shown as a negative portrayal of the woman which is part of the thriller feel which helps to keep the audience focused on the screen. Throughout our thriller we didn't focus on the women's features but more on how she was the victim to the fiancees rage.

In our film 'heartbreak' the man is engaged to his fiance but has an affair with a secretary. In the film obsessed the man is married to Sharon Charles who is a stay at home mum. In both our film and obsessed the wife (Sharon Charles) and Fiance in heartbreak both take revenge on the 'lover' for trying to take their 'man' away.

During the sequence of our film the fiance is challenging the stereotype of women as she comes across as the villain in the film. We see her being portrayed as a negative role of women as she acts in a violent way towards the secretary. This is negative because not all females act in the same way that she does whilst in the film.

We have a lone character in our film who is the finance, she will be blackmailing her man. The story will be told through her eyes and she will be the one pushing the film along (narrative). She is also the Antigenes character as she kidnaps the secretary so she is more the villain than the victim. However we don't really have a portaging character in our story because they all are villain like characters. You can say the secret is the portaging character as she is the one getting kidnapped however she was the one having the affair, same with the man.
We slightly disagree with John Berger's saying because our film is pushed along by females, rather than males. So we Challenge the stereotype of males being the main character pushing story along, as we have two females and only one male. One of the females (the finance) is the main one who brings the story along. Male gaze is a big thing in our film as two females automatically attract the male attention. Although our film is aimed for women we could also say for men also as we have lots of close ups of face and legs, that attracts the attention of males.
